Display Energy Certificates DEC |
A Display Energy Certificate referred to as a DEC, graphically shows how efficiently a building is being used. Since the 1st October 2008 all Public Buildings that are over 1000m² and regularly visited by the general public are required to display a DEC in the public area. On the 1st December 2010 all public buildings with a floor area of 250m² or more will be require a Display Energy Certifiate.
Unlike an NDEPC, which is an asset rating and looks at the thermal qualities of a building, the DEC is classed as an Operational Rating (OR) which looks at actual energy used. The DEC compares buildings being used for the same purpose and those with the lowest ratings are the most efficient. Also shown is how much Carbon the building produces as well as how much energy is generated by Low or Zero Carbon technologies.

The Advisory Report which accompanies the DEC makes a number of recommendations which will assist in reducing the building’s Carbon emissions and energy consumption. Unlike the DEC which is produced annually, the Advisory Report needs to be updated once every seven years. |
